What EUBAM does

Over 200 staff members of the Mission work along 1222 km of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. This includes more than one hundred customs and border guard experts from 22 EU Member States; representatives of several CIS countries in the UNDP contingent, and staff from Moldova and Ukraine. The Mission’s experts are located in six field offices: Basarabeasca, Chisinau, and Otaci in Moldova and Kotovsk, Kuchurhan, and Odesa Port in Ukraine. The Mission has its headquarters in Odesa, southern Ukraine.
The Mission’s activities are:
- Day to day on the job advice and training
- Specific on the job training e.g. forged documents recognition, car searching etc.
- Development of risk analysis
- Analytical overview on border security
- Connecting Moldova and Ukraine to the best EU practice in border management through experts and study visits
An Advisory Board assess and guides the work of the Mission. Its members include senior representatives of the of the Border Guards and Customs Services and Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Moldova and Ukraine, UNDP, the EU Special Representative for Moldova, the EU Presidency and the OSCE. The Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs, Prosecutor’s Offices and Security Services of Moldova and Ukraine and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) have the status of observers at the Advisory Board meetings.
